3 The main cost drivers for injection molding

Molding is an efficient and effective way to produce high quality plastic products. Quality is often ensured, but like any manufacturing process, costs have to be taken into account. Generally it is the cheapest way to manufacture a product, but that does not mean it is not necessarily expensive.

The cost of injection molding can partly depend on the quality, size and complexity of the materials used. the part, but here are the three biggest cost factors when it comes to injection molding.

  1. Component design. Good formulation saves a lot of money. When designing a molded part, things have to be taken into account. For maximum efficiency, components are designed to take into account the materials, the cooling time, and the work required to create the device. Bad part designing requires a lot of time and wasted effort. The poorly designed part results in retreat, slower cycle times (including cooling time) and extra work. The part is not suitable for tooling – especially if a part is complicated or complicated – and may require extra or special tooling costs. The part can be designed to require further casting work, adding even more work. This does not take into account shipping and packaging costs; good design takes into account space requirements for storage and delivery. Good part design dramatically reduces plastic injection molding costs.
  2. of tools. The quality of mold making greatly alters the cost of injection molding. The design limit of mold is the separating line – the line that separates the two halves of form, core and cavity. This should be carefully considered when tooling is used. For example, a protruding portion of a mold when the tool is provided with a suitable tool can be oriented along the cut-off line. If the tool is improperly machined, this will cause backing or over slipping and the part snaps into the tool. This will require improvements to the workforce and will cost you valuable time, which can be used to create more parts.
  3. Tool design. The quality of the tool design has an immediate impact on the quality and manufacturing costs of the finished part. Nothing counts on quality, and the reliability of a device that will give you the things you want every time will shorten your initial investment. For example, a cheaper injection molding tool saves money in the short term. In the long run, lack of reliability and slow running time will probably be responsible. Investing in a quality tool plan that specifically fits your needs and requirements will ensure you consistently deliver high quality end products.

Taking time to examine your needs brings a worthwhile return on your investment. With good component design, tools and tool design, you can provide a relatively stress-free effort to produce the product.
