As the nozzle concentrates the gas on the tip of the borehole and introduces a spark from the electrode, it converts the gas stream into plasma. The primary function of the electrode is to provide plasma. The wear of the electrode can be detected by examining the depth of the insert and the test bench. Other participants may include defective gas flow, gas leakage, moisture accumulation and contaminants in the plasma gas.
The nozzle limits the plasma screen to a given diameter on a perfectly circular hole at its tip. It tightens plasma gases and increases its speed. The most common cause of nozzle damage is repeated torch parts. In addition, the wrong cutting distance, the cutting material is thicker than the plasma cutting ability, and incorrect gas and amperage settings cause premature wear. Supervision by the operator, regular inspections and the use of OEM parts helps to extend the lifetime of plasma usage. The electrode and nozzle should be changed as a set to keep the cutting quality at the highest level.
The shield surrounds the consumable, protecting the parts from damage. Equally, it has a perfectly circular bore as the nozzle. The most common problem with shielding is damage to the main aperture, as splints or splashes are blocked or clogged. The handset can usually be removed. If the main slot is out, it must be replaced.
The swirl ring creates and controls the movement of gas as it flows around the electrode and the nozzle. Regularly checked and cleaned, swirl rings result in multiple electrodes and nozzle changes. The clogged swirl ring inhibits gas flow, reduces cutting quality and shortens the electrode and nozzle life. Be sure to match the proper swirl ring to other plasma users in the flashlight.
Regular inspection and care of plasma torches helps maximize the life, efficiency and performance of the plasma cutter. Regular maintenance and replacement of worn out consumables helps to keep cutting quality at a high level, reduces lost costs, reduces downtime and reduces production costs.
